Plac Test

Why carry out the PLAC test?

  • The PLAC® test detects the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.
  • This simple blood test, which measures Lp-PLA2, enables your doctor to make a more individualised risk assessment.
  • + 70% of heart attacks and the majority of strokes are caused by the rupture of atherosclerotic plaque.

Additional information

The facts

Heart attacks and strokes are the leading causes of death in industrialised countries.

  • 200,000 people die every year from cardiovascular disease in France.
  • Twice as many women die each year from stroke as from breast cancer.

Who and when to test?

Men ≥ 45 years of age; women ≥ 55 years of age with at least two risk factors from the following list:

  • high blood pressure
  • a family history of cardiovascular disease or diabetes, overweight
  • high blood lipids
  • smoking
  • lack of physical exercise

Results and interpretation

Determination of Lp-PLA2 (an enzyme specific to vascular inflammation) indicates whether there are unstable plaques in the arterial vessel walls that are prone to rupture.
